Course Description

Where does art live outside museums—and why does it matter?

In Public Art & Civic Voice, students aged 11–17 will discover how art shapes our neighborhoods, sparks conversations, and gives communities a visual voice. Over eight weeks, we'll walk through Frederick's streets, examine murals and monuments, learn about art as protest and celebration, and create our own work inspired by what we find.

Civic Roots: Understanding Local Government & Community Action

How does our neighborhood shape the people who live in it?
Civic Roots takes civics out of textbooks and into the streets, meeting halls, and community spaces where young people can witness democracy in action. Over eight weeks, students will map their neighborhoods, meet local leaders, practice empathy through service, and leave with real-world skills for being active, engaged citizens.

Art & Voices: Celebrating Different Artists and Their Stories

Monthly Art Class for Ages 5–10
Every 3rd Monday | 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Course Overview

In this monthly gathering, young artists will discover how people throughout history used art to share their feelings, tell their stories, and help others understand important ideas about fairness, friendship, and belonging. We'll meet artists from many backgrounds—minority creators, LGBTQ+ voices, and artists with different kinds of minds—and then make art inspired by what we learn.
